The Crazies: Narrative
The Crazies: Narrative
The crazies is a horror zombie film set in a small american town, it follows the narrative of a sheriff and his wife (David and Judy).
Before the film starts there is a plane crash carrying the "crazies" virus. the plane crashes within a lake which happens to be a nearby towns source of drinking water. This means that the town had been drinking the water therefore meaning the town could be infected with the virus.
we also learn that Judy (sheriffs wife) is pregnant, this causes her temperature to be higher due to a fever caused by the pregnancy. Because of Judy's fever the military mistake her for being infected as a sign of being infected is an elevated temperature. This causes David to head back in to the town from the service station to save his wife and in turn reuniting with Russel (Sheriffs deputy)
During the film we learn that Russel escaped from a large military containment cage due to a red truck and a group of unknown armed people crashing through the metal fence. Russel then heads back to the town where he meets back up with David.
we also learn that the people who were deemed "safe" via the government were killed and burned via the government. we learn this when David and Judy return to the service station to find a pile of empty bullet casings along with numerous cremated bodies.
During act 1 we see the all of the town enjoying a baseball game when one of the towns residents walks onto the field with a shotgun, the town sheriff is then forced to shoot and kill the resident. We also see that the community doctor has noticed a few other residents are becoming unresponsive. The following night a local farmer burns his family farm with his wife and son trapped inside. David and Russel also discover a submerged military aircraft in the nearby lake, David realizes that the plane has contaminated the towns drinking water. David proceeds to shut off the towns water supply directly against the mayors orders.
During act 2 we see that communication services within the town are now lost, soldiers arrive in the town to take all residents to the high school for examination. David passes the examination whilst Judy does not, this causes the couple to be separated. We learn that Judy is pregnant, therefore explaining why she failed the examination. The perimeter of the facility is then breached by infected townspeople causing infected residents to break free. David meets with Russel and they rescue Judy along with her assistant Becca. Together they find Becca's boyfriend and mother, who are then killed and burned by the military. David, Russel, Judy and Becca find an old police patrol car and get it working again. They hide in an car wash to escape the sight of a government attack helicopter, they are then ambushed by crazies, Becca is killed and the car is blown up. Russel disables a passing government SUV and shoots the driver. Russel threatens David and Judy but is disarmed, once disarmed Russel realizes he is infected.
During act 3 Russel dies distracting a military patrol whilst David and Judy escape. David and Judy return to the service station to search for a vehicle, they discover the military had executed those who were evacuated. whilst protecting themselves from infected town residents they escape inside a truck.
The town is then destroyed via a large explosion which flips and disables the truck. David and Judy survive and walk start walking to the nearest city. A view from a military satellite shows the couple walking then shows the city with the words "initiate containment protocol" suggesting a new containment attempt.
